Community Works for Health- A Training and Employment Programme

Are you looking to start a rewarding career in the NHS?
Waltham Forest Adult Learning Service, in partnership with Barts Health NHS Trust, is offering you the chance to join a tailored pathway into employment with one of the largest healthcare providers in the country.
Upon completing the course, you’ll be added to the Barts Health talent pool and receive ringfenced job opportunities. You’ll also have the chance to complete a six-week work placement at one of the five Barts Health hospitals. These placements provide valuable experience and insight into NHS working life and may even lead to a job offer. You can also add this experience to your CV when applying for future roles.

Who is this pathway for?
This opportunity is open to Waltham Forest residents who:
- Are aged 19 or over
- Are unemployed or economically inactive
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Have good digital skills
- Hold a Level 2 qualification in English and Maths
- Have recent work experience
- Are committed to working in the NHS after completing the programme
What will you learn?
- Learn about the different roles available within Barts Health
- Understand Barts NHS values and how to apply them in your work
- Analyse job descriptions and understand person specifications
- Write strong supporting statements for job applications
- Identify your key strengths and talk about them with confidence
- Develop your job interview skills
- Gain presentation skills
- Learn essential workplace practices including infection control, safeguarding, GDPR, the Equality Act and NHS communication protocols
What we offer:
- A one-week training programme delivered at either Queens Road Centre or the Junction Centre
- Ongoing one-to-one support from a dedicated employment advisor to help you apply for roles within the NHS
Roles available (Band 2–3):
- Administration / Clerical
- Healthcare Assistants / Theatre Support Workers
- Phlebotomists (previous experience or at least two weeks’ phlebotomy training required)
- Medical Laboratory Assistants (Biomedical/Science degree required; must not currently be in education)
- Pharmacy Assistants (Pharmacology or related degree required)
