Spotlight on Patrick
Future Filmmaker
The Inside Track
Patrick has been working with Future Formed since June last year, when he visited Edinburgh Fringe with our Inside Track programme. Since then he has worked in a number of roles, including bar work at Revel Puck, as a technician at Brixton House Theatre, as event crew in Waltham Forest and as a co-deviser and performer in Run, a show created as part of our Raising the Roof Project.
Hi Patrick. Tell us about yourself. What brought you to Future Formed?
I come from a creative media background and I’ve always found it difficult to break into the professional space. I was at the job centre speaking to my work coach. After learning about my passion and my history he suggested I look into this programme called Future Formed. After a brief read-through of their mission statement it aligned with my values deeply. I saw it as a way to put my foot through the door in the creative industry.
We’ve only been working together for the past 6 months but so much has happened in that time. Can you talk us through some of the highlights?
One of my most recent highlights with Future Formed was definitely having the opportunity to go to the Edinburgh Fringe last summer. It was genuinely life-changing and it’s something that I could’ve never done without the help of Future Formed and Soho Theatre. Another highlight would be my time during the Future Technicians Programme and my placement at Brixton House. It gave me a proper taster as to how things might be for when I finally make it in the industry.
On your recent involvement in the Raising the Roof project you described how much it had meant to you. Can you talk us through your involvement in the project and why it had such an impact?
My time during Raising the Roof was definitely an enlightening experience. I’ve always been on the behind the scenes side of things so it was a nice change of pace. I had the wonderful opportunity to work alongside my peers and the amazing Jim Pope in the development of ‘Run’. It had an impact primarily because it’s been a while since I’ve worked in a team for a production. I’d almost forgotten what it was like and it brought back a lot of fond memories from my time at university and sixth form. I value collaboration.
You recently came along to a Third Space session at Soho Theatre. How was it? What did you get out of it?
A major hurdle that I’ve been facing on my creative journey is the lack of community that I’ve been missing. Being around other people with the same passion and creative drive as me. Third Space allowed me to connect with those kinds of people all the while sharing ideas and exchanging little tidbits of advice to help further our own individual goals. Attending the session reinspired me to continue writing.
You’re stuck in a lift with someone for 60 minutes. You get to choose who that person is. Who is it and what would you ask them?
To be honest I’d probably like to be in a lift with Zack Snyder. I’d probably ask him how he managed to muster up the courage to finish his version of the Justice League movie even after the tragedy that affected him and his family.
You’re allowed to make one new law. What is it?
I genuinely don’t know but off the top of my head it’d probably be to have mandatory job interviews for every single applicant that fits the qualifications for a role.
Finally, what are your next steps? Any plans for 2026?
I don’t really know. I’m just waiting to see what opportunities arise that can further my personal development.
